Why is Trump Plaza Casino Being Demolished

why is trump plaza casino being demolishedSeveral years ago, the Trump Plaza Casino was constructed in Miami, Florida. Although it was a great facility for many years, its performance has steadily declined. In fact, it had a poor showing at WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V. That's why it's being demolished now.

WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V

Several months ago, we were informed that the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino was about to be demolished. This prompted us to look up the history of the building and see if we could find out why it was being demolished. We found that the hotel has been open since 1984 and has been operated by the Trump Organization for over 30 years. In addition to its history as a hotel, it was also a casino and the location of numerous WWE events. However, the company is not associated with the Plaza any longer.

The Trump Plaza also played host to WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V in 1988. The first of these two events, WrestleMania IV, featured "Macho Man" Randy Savage winning the World Wrestling Federation championship title. The event also had several other notable matches. These included a tag team match between the Warlord and The Demolition that is considered one of the best matches of all time. Another memorable moment was the debut of the Mega Powers in the main event. They broke up on the February 3rd edition of The Main Event. They were accompanied by the likes of Ted Dibiase and Virgil.

The event also featured the first ever tag team match between The Powers of Pain and The Demolition. While the match was not without its flaws, it still made the grade. The event was the first of its kind to be broadcast live from the Trump Plaza. The crowd was also a lot louder than at WrestleMania III. In fact, it was so loud that many people couldn't hear the commentary, much to the chagrin of fans who were hoping to hear from their favorite superstars.

The event also included a 5K run by the hotel's namesake, Lord Alfred Hayes. This was an excellent way to start the day off right and to demonstrate the hotel's newfound respect for its visitors. The run was also an opportunity to announce the arrival of a new, more modern wing of the hotel. This was also a time for a small town mayor to get in front of the local television cameras.

WrestleMania V was also notable for its overbooking. Several of the better matches were short and sweet. However, it was a much improved event overall, despite the financial difficulties that plagued the Trump organization. It also had the largest advance ticket sales for any WrestleMania. Although a lot of the matches weren't all that great, the card was a good one and WrestleMania V certainly stood the test of time. The venue itself did not fare well, however.

The Trump Plaza also played host to a WrestleMania ad campaign that featured a few interesting ads. One of the ads included a flaming stick of dynamite. It also included an interesting feature in which fans could vote on a poll of who would win the best match.

Poor performance

Throughout the years, it became increasingly apparent that the Trump Plaza Casino and Hotel was the poorest performing casino in Atlantic City. Even with its name changed to Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Trump Taj Mahal, the Plaza Casino was still the worst-performing casino in Atlantic City. And that was after all the efforts that Trump Entertainment Resorts made to sell the Plaza Casino to a California firm for $20 million.

According to the Casino Control Commission, Trump's casinos in Atlantic City, including the Plaza Casino, Taj Mahal, Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, and the Showboat Casino Hotel, have all performed poorly in comparison to their competitors. Trump's casinos also performed worse than their peers when compared in head-to-head competition.

As a result of the poor performance of Trump's casinos, his company, Trump Entertainment Resorts, filed for bankruptcy twice. The first time, the company filed for bankruptcy in 1995. The second time, the company filed for bankruptcy in 2009. This time, Trump stepped down from his position as chairman of the casino company. He retained his 10% stake in the company, but did not control it. The company's performance was so bad, it prompted Trump to sue Trump Entertainment Resorts in 2014.

According to the Casino Control Commission, Trump's competitors in Atlantic City, including the Borgata Casino and Hotel, and the Plaza Casino, performed better than Trump's casinos. That is why it is important for Trump to have his casinos running. If they did not, the city of Atlantic City would have a harder time drawing visitors. Trump's casinos would also have a harder time generating jobs. This is not a coincidence. It is a result of management and poor performance.

In July, Trump Entertainment Resorts sent out notices to employees about the upcoming termination of operations at the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino. It said it would be closing the casino on September 16. But the Trump Entertainment Resorts did not sell the Plaza to a California firm. It was instead sold to Icahn Enterprises.

Icahn has long been planning to demolish Trump Plaza. He has sought financial assistance from the state to pay for the demolition. Icahn has also argued that the land is more valuable vacant than with hotel towers. As a result, he has requested the state's Investment Alternative Tax money to pay for the demolition.

The Plaza Casino had the smallest casino winnings of the 12 casinos that operated in Atlantic City in the first quarter of 2014. The Plaza had the lowest gaming revenue of the 12 casinos that operated in Atlantic City, with the only other casino that had a higher casino winnings in May was the Golden Nugget.

A New Jersey state regulator found that Trump Plaza discriminated against black workers, though there was no formal discriminatory policy. Instead, lower-level managers would often reassign workers based on race. For example, a black worker named Newton Brown III told a state investigator in 1990 that he was reassigned five times. He was also accused of having ties to organized crime.

Local eyesore

Among the myriad casinos that line the Atlantic City boardwalk, the Trump Plaza may be a dead cert for the top spot. While a bit on the pricey side, it is also a bit on the cynical side. The last time I was there, I didn't feel quite as comfortable putting a bet on the place. The hotel is still open to foot traffic but the name of the game isn't quite as good as it once was. As such, I've relegated my visits to the evenings only. Despite the fact that I've visited it more times than I can count on one hand, I can count on one hand the number of times I've actually gambled.

While I'm not the biggest fan of the shady hotel, I can't help but feel a little squeamish about the whole operation. Having said that, I was surprised to discover that the hotel has been operating under the radar for so long. There's no telling where the Trump Plaza may be headed if it's current state of mind doesn't change. If it's only the name of the owner can be trusted, it's only a matter of time before the place is shuttered for good.
